I enjoyed the story in this book. A quick read, but wholesome and clean and entertaining for a long night's read. What drove me nuts (I had the kindle version) were the random editing issues. They drove me crazy so I started memorizing them, until I couldn't keep track anymore and started writing them down. Initially, there are just random numbers spaced in between 2 words. 15, 16, 21, 107, 142...you get the 232 point. Confusing and annoying. The second and even more annoying instance was the random inserts of "-ebook." (as text, sometimes with more text) insterted into random words.
For example: "Grandma placed the orange platter on the stove." (Normal) Kindle version: "Grandma placed the or-ebook. ange platter on the stove." The worse case was at 42% in where the word "counter" had this text inserted in the middle of it, "-ebook. E m i l y ' s C h a n c e". I noted at least 18 errors of these two types across the entire book.

To buy a used copy of this book for a few bucks would have been fine. To pay over $5 for the kindle version and have the editing be so frustrating is kind of a downer. I am interested in the next book in the series but not sure I want to deal with the editing issues. (First book in series via kindle was fine.)

Emily Chance A Novel The Callahans of Texas Sharon Gillenwater 9780800733544 Books Reviews

A few weeks ago, I posted about the book Jenna's Cowboy by Sharon Gillenwater. Well today I would like to share the second book in the series, Callahans of Texas, called Emily's Chance. This is a great book that follows Jenna's Cowboy, however, if you did not read the first in this series, this one is also a great stand-alone novel! It is a story about forgiveness and letting go of past hurts to be able to and discover the true meaning of love.

Emily comes from a wealthy family in Dallas but she has had her share of hurts. She came to Callahan Crossing to be the curator of the museum the town is trying to get going. She met Chance Callahan when the town was fighting a fire and he helped her save artifacts from the museum that was right in the path of the flames. Since then, she can't get him out of her mind. Should she give up her dream job in Dallas and stay with Chance in Callahan Crossing? Can she trust him?

Chance is just a good Christian cowboy. He has waited a long time to find the right woman to marry. When he sees Emily trying desperately to save artifacts in the museum from the fire, he knows he has met the woman for him. However, the more he gets to know her, he wonders if it really is God's will. Will it be possibly for him to convince her to stay? Is there really such a thing as love at first sight?

I highly recommend this book. There are so many messages intertwined within the pages of a story that will definitely touch your heart. This is a book that is hard to put down.
Emily's Chance - the second novel in the "Callahans of Texas" series. Let me just say, I had read "Jenna's Cowboy" and was so moved. I am a sucker for the South, and especially for military. This book was beyond what I had expected. I was absolutely DELIGHTED to find that the author continued to let us see into the both laid-back country living, and the fast-paced ranching lifestyle.

Let me first say, having spent a few years visiting Mt. Vernon, Texas semi-regularly, although it is on the other side of Texas, I found some of smallest details used by the author very refreshing. The Dr. Pepper references just really got me. If some don't know, Dr. Pepper is to Texas, as Pepsi is to Indiana. It was definitely something to get used to visiting, and was a sweet, random memory to have arise while reading this. Having Emily reference that Chance was (ruffly/badly quoted from the book) turning her to the dark side as she sipped Dr. Pepper just made me chuckle. Aside from that, just the little things that were included made me long to have actually decided to move back to Texas. That feeling being caused by reading a book, in my opinion, makes that book a success!

The one thing I found hard to swallow, but in no way affected the reading, was the use of religion. This was only hard at first, as I didnt realize that the contact would be so centered on Religion. Once the story was under way, and I reminded myself that the story was set in "God's Country", it was a very good read.

I realize this review is of no literary relevance whatsoever, but you have many of those reviews to read. Know that all three of these books are very well written. Very true to the land, location and anything of that sort. I read "Emily's Chance" and "Megan's Hero" each in a day. Needless to say, it was a very great weekend. My only wish for the stories? That there were more to read )
As I wrote in my review of the first book, my preference is for historical romance Christian novels (as well as Amish) and at first I was disappointed to find out that this series was Contemporary. However, I really have enjoyed this series ... this second book was in my opinion as good as the first, with Chance's families good strong core family values behind him which anchor the series and this book ... it held strong and true. This I think is what kept me so grounded in these books. At the same time my heart broke for Emily, as she was so struggling to prove herself to her parents. She had lived with an abusive father and a mother that was so interested in her own career that she felt she could never live up to their expectations. Fortunately, she had fantastic grandparents on both sides to keep some sort of focus for her. It broke my heart reading all that she went through as a child and all she was still dealing with even as an adult. This so affected ability to trust in this relationship with Chance as well as, did she want to take that chance or go forward to prove herself in her career field that her parents weren't sure if she could ever succeed in. I just wanted to reach though the pages and hold her at times and tell her that she didn't have anything to prove. She was such a good person in her own right that was all she needed to be.

Again, a good love story with strong Christian values... well worth reading now on to the 3rd and final book in this enjoyable series!
